Phil Mickelson Win’s Golf Major at 50 With Fasting
Phil Mickelson becomes the oldest player in golf history to win a PGA Tour Championship at the age of 50. He credits his success to dramatic lifestyle changes.
At the age of 50, Phil Mickelson is the oldest player to win a Major Championship in golf’s 161-year history. The record was last set by Julius Boros in 1968 at the age of 48. Phil credits his recent success to fasting, discipline, Coffee for Wellness, and good ole hard work. I couldn’t agree more.
If you have been watching Phil Mickelson play golf in recent years, you probably noticed he is lighter and more focused. Golf at that level is tough for any age, but trying to keep up with the young bucks can take a toll on anyone. But, here we are. Phil broke a record that was last set 53 years ago. What a remarkable thing to witness.
Phil Mickelson Has Psoriatic Arthritis
It is no secret that Phil Mickelson suffers from Psoriatic Arthritis. Do a quick search on the internet, and you will find countless articles discussing if he will ever be able to play the game of golf again. I think we now have the answer to that question.
In 2010, Amgen & Pfizer released a press release announcing a partnership with Phil Mickelson. They manufacturer the drug Enbrel which is used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Plaque Psoriasis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.
For years, Phil was the face of the Enbrel commercials that featured him doing tasks that would be almost impossible for anyone with extreme arthritis. When you are in a lot of pain, your first reaction is to reach out to the medial community for help.
In one of Phil’s post interviews after winning at Kiawah Island golf course, he was asked which foods he misses the most. He said all of them. Phil mentioned that he does a 36-hour fast every week which has put his arthritis in remission. He said, “I don’t even know I have it”. Only through discipline can he make this happen.
The problem today is: We live in a “prescribe first” society. If someone has an issue, you prescribe them a pill and send them on their way. There is never talk about lifestyle changes like fasting or removing inflammatory foods because there is no money to be made in it.
Ever read the side effects of powerful medications? It makes you wonder how this stuff is even legal.
Phil Mickelson Changed His Eating Habits
“I wasn’t educated,” Phil says. “I either wasn’t aware or didn’t want to know the things I was putting in my body, whether it was diet soda and how toxic that is, or whether it was the amount of sugar and how much inflammation it causes, or whether it was the quantity; all of those things, I just kind of shut my eyes to.”
Quote from Golf.com article
Today, we are inundated with addictive, processed foods everywhere you look. Advertisements on TV and social media tell us how much “happier” our lives will be if we consume their products. It couldn’t be further from the truth. These foods not only contribute to many of the physical diseases we see today, but mental as well.
We have been lied to by large food corporations about what is healthy for the human body all for profit. Those damn cold vampires on Wall Street have steered the food pyramid in a direction that has left most of the country sick and obese. It is sad to watch it play out.
So Much Distraction in Life
"Just the ability to kind of quiet my mind and get rid of all the exterior noise. I don't want to get all spiritual, but that's kind of been the biggest thing for me."
Phil Mickelson
Today, we are told we need to track our every move. We now wear watches or arm bands that record our lives in great detail, even when we are sleeping. There are even ridiculous apps that track how much water we consume. No wonder everyone has anxiety and is so stressed out. It was time to get back to basics. Reset. And that's what Phil did.
Phil mentioned in an interview that he put away the electronics and focused. He also mentioned meditation played an important role in his ability to get some calm back in his life. By not letting the noise in he could see what was important right in front of him. This is a great lesson that we can all learn from when life is coming at us from all angles.
Fasting Focus
People all over the world are discovering the benefits of fasting. Fasting is something our hunter-gatherer ancestors did naturally. Many times they would go days without food before finding and killing their next meal. It wasn’t done for health reasons. It was their way of life.
Fasting is about changing your relationship with food. Our society has forgotten where real food actually comes from because everything today is farmed, slaughtered, and prepared for us.
Fasting is about resetting the body and learning what you actually need to survive. Not what some marketing team at a large corporation is telling you to consume. Think for yourself and make some real changes in your life that will better your health.
As someone who grew up eating all day long, I can tell you fasting will be a shock to your psyche. It is an adjustment to your way of life that will take time. If you can get a hold on it, your life will be changed forever.
Fasting will put you into focus mode like you have never seen. If you are first starting, you will have to get past the withdrawals of all the junk food you are eating. But, once you get into a routine, you’re mental and physical health will drastically improve.
Energy Doesn’t Come From More
Now, more than ever, you are constantly barraged with advertising telling you their product will solve all your problems. Whatever they may be.
- Focus issues? Try this new supplement derived from jelly fish.
- Joint pain? Try this new pill that will have you skipping through a field of sunflowers. Oh, did we mention it could kill you?
- Common cold? Drink this large glass of orange juice with 40 grams of sugar. That should help.
- Allergies? Take this over the counter medication with a “D” at the end of its name. Oh, by the way, did we mention this is the same stuff they use to make Meth?
- Low energy? Chug this chemical laden toxic energy drink that will fry your endocrine system.
- And the list goes on.
Phil Mickelson Coffee
Phil drinks and now sells a coffee to fuel your life that is similar to Bullet Proof Coffee. He has sourced a quality coffee bean that he sells along with his “Good Stuff Tub”. The tub includes L-Theanine which promotes focus, MCT Powder to improve metabolism, Collagen to support skin health, Cinnamon for joint health, and Himalayan Pink Salt provides electrolytes.
I have not tried his coffee or The Good Stuff Tub, so I can’t comment on the quality of the beans or the effectiveness of the supplements.
Many People Have Undiagnosed Arthritis
I believe most people in the world that eat inflammatory foods or too much food in general have some form of arthritis in their body. You can call it inflammation, arthritis, or whatever else you want to call it.
Humans today are so riddled with inflammation they are essentially just surviving, and not thriving. We have forgotten what it feels like to be pain free. By removing what’s causing your inflammation, you can begin to heal from the inside and live your best life.
The Fasting Method
Dr. Jason Fung is one of the world leaders in the world of fasting. He has a website called The Fasting Method which is probably a great place to start if you need help in your life with diet and fasting.
Another great resource is Dr. Ken Berry on YouTube. He is the author of the book Lies My Doctor Told Me. It is a great read and a good start for anyone looking to improve their health. His YouTube channel is full of videos breaking down the truth about nutrition.
Conclusion
No matter what your age is, it’s never too late to make changes in your life. If you are struggling with mental or physical issues that are holding you back, it may be time to assess what you’re putting into your body that is causing so much harm.
Congratulations to Phil Mickelson for winning the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island at the age of 50. He is now the oldest player in golf history to win a Major Championship.
It’s really energizing to see his health improve so dramatically through lifestyle changes.
Here’s to a win at the 2021 U.S. Open, Lefty!
